The Porsche GT2 is a 2-door 2 seater coupe sports car produced by German manufacturer Porsche Automobil Holding SE since 1994. The Porsche GT2 is based on the Porsche 991 Turbo, and uses a fairly similar twin-turbocharged engine. The Porsche GT2 is lighter than the Porsche Turbo because it uses rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive, and also has a few less interior components. However, the Porsche GT2 has quite a few more upgrades than the Porsche 911 Turbo, including engine upgrades, larger breaks as well as a stiffer suspension calibration.

The new Porsche GT2, known as the Porsche GT2 RS, was unveiled early 2010 and is set to be released late 2010. According to the press, this new Porsche GT2 will be a lighter GT2, with a 620 horsepower engine. The car will go 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 330km/h (205mph). It already clocked a record-breaking time of 7 min. and 18 sec. around the Nurburgring-Nordschleife track, one of the fastest times in the modern production car history.
As a reminder, the previous Porsche GT2, which was first unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show has an horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder 3.6 liters twin turbocharged engine that makes it possible for the supercar to go 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 328km/h (204mph). However, many have complained that the Porsche GT2 is actually better on the road than on a circuit.
This is certainly one of the reasons why Porsche has decided to release a new version of the Porsche GT2: the Porsche GT2 RS, which will apparently by 200kg less that the previous version. This weight reduction was made possible by the addition of a few features including an acrylic glass rear window and center-locking wheels, among a few other features. The Porsche GT2 RS variant was first announced in Leipzig, Germany in May 2010.
While the Porsche GT3 RS costs approximately $20,000 more than the GT3, it seems very likely that the Porsche GT2 RS costs a lot more than the GT2. A Porsche GT2 already costs $60,000 more than a Porsche 911 Turbo, and additionally features a 50 horsepower increase and an approximate 140kg weight decrease. The press estimates that the price of the Porsche GT2 RS will be between $230,000 and $250,000. This new version should make the price of the previous version significantly decrease soon after launch.
